GS-2: Important International institutions, agencies and fora- their structure, mandate. 

Context: The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) launched the Global Alliance for Human Rights to strengthen global commitment to human rights amid rising conflicts, inequality, shrinking civic space, and emerging technological challenges.

About the Global Alliance for Human Rights

• The Global Alliance for Human Rights is a multi-stakeholder, cross-regional initiative convened by the OHCHR.

• It brings together governments, businesses, civil society organizations, cities, educators, academics, youth groups, and community leaders.

• The Alliance is anchored in the principles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) and is structured as a long-term initiative leading up to its 80th anniversary in 2028.

• Goal: To place human rights at the centre of decision-making at local, national, and global levels.

• To strengthen collective action for protecting human rights and fundamental freedoms.

• Aim:

• Promote dignity, equality, justice, and accountability.
• Support victims of human rights violations and human rights defenders.
• Expand human rights education and public awareness.
• Ensure that innovation and emerging technologies are guided by human rights principles.
• Build resilient institutions and sustainable support systems for human rights.

• Three Guiding Principles: 

• Imagine – Develop innovative and future-oriented solutions.
• Dialogue – Foster cooperation and engagement among stakeholders.
• Act – Translate commitments into concrete actions and measurable outcomes.
