Govt. pegs FY26 growth at 7.4% amid tariff concerns

The Union government has estimated that real growth in the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the country will stand at 7.4% in the current financial year 2025-26, up from 6.5% recorded the previous year.

ISRO set to launch earth observation satellite on Jan. 12

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is scheduled to launch the PSLV-C62/EOS-N1 Mission on January 12. The launch of the earth observation satellite (EOS-N1) satellite along with other payloads will take place from the first launch pad of the Satish Dhawan Space Centre at Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has told the Supreme Court of India that it has a constitutional duty to ensure that only citizens are enrolled as voters, and that no foreigner makes it to the electoral rolls. Even a single foreigner cannot be allowed to exist on the voter list, the ECI argued before the Court on January 6. The ECI is defending its ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, which has struck off millions of names of voters.

The India State of Forest Report 2023 reveals that India has already sequestered 30.43 billion tonnes of CO2 equivalents of total carbon stock. However, the official figures do not capture the definition's elasticity. The Forest Survey of India's definition of "forest cover" includes any land of more than one hectare with the overstory 10% canopied.

Centre seeks comments on draft Pesticides Bill

The Agriculture Ministry on Wednesday released the draft Pesticides Management Bill, 2025, seeking public comments on the legislation that aims at replacing the 57-year-old Insecticides Act, 1968, and the Insecticides Rules, 1971, with enhanced penalties for violations.

Census first phase to be held from April 1 to Sept. 30 this year

The first phase of Census 2027, the houselisting operations (HLO) phase, will be conducted from April 1 to September 30 across all States and Union Territories, the Registrar-General and Census Commissioner of India said in a notification on Wednesday. This phase will be conducted in each State over a 30-day period, with the specific dates to be notified by the States.

Venezuela will 'turn over' up to 50 mn barrels of oil to U.S.: Trump

U.S. President Donald Trump has claimed that Venezuela's interim government would send 30 to 50 million barrels of oil to the United States, after Washington invaded the oil-rich South American country on January 3 and captured its President, Nicolas Maduro.

The United Nations on Wednesday said decades-long discrimination and segregation of Palestinians by Israel in the West Bank were intensifying, and called on the country to end its "apartheid system".
