Context:

Recently, the 8th edition of the India-Kazakhstan Joint Military Exercise KAZIND-2024 commenced at Auli, Uttarakhand. 

More on the News: 

• This exercise is scheduled to be held from 30th September to 13th October 2024.
• The Indian armed forces are being represented by a battalion of the Kumaon Regiment of the Indian Army, as well as personnel from the Indian Air Force.
• The joint military exercise aims to enhance the capabilities of both nations in conducting counter-terrorism operations in a sub-conventional or low-intensity conflict scenario under Chapter VII of the United Nations Charter (Actions with respect to threats to the peace, breaches of the peace, and acts of aggression). 
• It focuses on operations in semi-urban and mountainous terrain to develop a high level of physical fitness, and sharing of best practices at the tactical level between the Armed Forces of both countries.

About Exercise KAZIND:

• The Annual Joint Exercise, initially known as Exercise PRABAL DOSTYK, was first held in 2016. It has since evolved into an annual event and was renamed Exercise KAZIND after its second edition.
• Objectives: The joint drills typically focus on a range of operations, including counter-terrorism strategies, peacekeeping efforts, and humanitarian assistance in natural disaster scenarios. 
• The exercise will include rehearsing tactical drills such as joint responses to terrorist actions, establishing a Joint Command Post, and securing helipads or landing sites.
• Significance: KAZIND has developed into a vital exercise that fosters mutual trust and understanding between the Indian and Kazakh armed forces. It enables both nations to enhance their interoperability and coordination in both combat and non-combat scenarios.
