The central government is going to introduce two legislative bills in Parliament on Monday to bring in higher excise levy on tobacco and related products, and a new cess called 'Health Security se National Security Cess' on pan masala, as the compensation cess levied under the Goods and Services Tax (GST) regime is set to end.

Economists upgrade FY26 GDP growth forecasts to 7.4%

India's Stronger-than-expected GDP growth data for the second quarter running has pushed economists to revise upwards their forecasts for 2025-26 as a whole to almost 7.5 per cent, significantly higher than the Reserve Bank of India's (RBI) current projection of 6.8 per cent and Chief Economic Advisor V Anantha Nageswaran's revised figure of at least 7 per cent.

Vietnam's VinFast to launch electric 2-wheelers in India in 2026

Vietnam's Major automaker VinFast, which debuted two electric cars in India earlier this year, will also launch electric two-wheelers in the Indian market in 2026, and is currently undertaking feasibility studies, a top executive of the company said.
